Good. A date has been set to over a month from now that should be to no shock at the moment.

Hope they come up with something that the majority will accept as appropriate.

The new changes have been drawing a lot of positive comments at my local stores. People are already discussing the possibilities of what new formats we can start running under the new system. It provides a great way to reach out to the casual players that frequently shy away from traditional tournaments and introduce them to the Organized Play programs. Really, anything that keeps players playing on a regular basis is good for the game. Whether its bimonthly PTQs or weekly programs like these, they all help keep people playing. Yeah, it doesn't do much to console the people that were disappointed by the loss of a PT, but it does provide a solid option for much of the States/JSS crowd.

It does? Hows that? How does losing states/ the SCHOLORSHIP series being replaced by PROMOS console those people? I mean seriously all wotc has done is funnel more money into the money sink that is gleemax and agreed to print promos.. As a store i would rather have kept having to pay the minor amount for the tourney kits i currently do. 16 dollars for 64 promos that almost entirely go to the players and tourneys as well as my case where i resell is a joke. Now i cant do that since all the promos have to go to the players.

For those who haven't seen it yet, BDM's article this week is an interview that shares more details about the Wizards Play Network they announced at GAMA...

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/daily/bd329

The short of it is that you will be able to sanction just about any event now (and TOs can play in "casual" events), with promo prize support seperate from FNM prize support.

They are also going to enhance the Event/Store Locatoar, give us a new version of DCI Reporter, and implement more stuff on Gleemax.

It sounds like there will be more stuff too; they seem to be methodically rolling details out on this.

Because alot more people have access to these promos than they did to JSS/MSS Scholarships or States plaques.

The problem is that it doesn't serve as a replacement for states. The fact that anyone COULD run a tournament doesn't mean that they WILL. I don't know about you, but I'm certainly not going to organizing 40 (if memory serves) people tournaments, like the last Hiroshima prefectural tournament. And that's not even that big of a tournament as champs/states go. I don't think foil cards do much to keep gamers compared with actually having tournaments that are big fun events. And I don't think this will lead to that. It might lead to some more FNM like events, but for serious players who aren't PT-aspirants we lost a good tournament and are getting no replacement.

Now that they revealed what they have in store we could now see all sorts of wacky formats see sanction play from EDH to CYO formats that would be more or less over looked as if Rosewater was finally getting his way in seeing what other formats could surface from the turn of events.

If CYO does become a sanctioned format we could put aside all the bickering of the past and just move forward.

Maybe part of the solution doesnt have to come from wizards, at least for states. Where I live the regular TO is going to run State Champs apart from whatever wizards says, the issue is going to be getting publicity. What do you think about coordinating with organizers in multiple if not most states to get a date set aside for states

Could be a good idea. I'm sure TO's are more than a little pissed about Wotc taking away their exclusive Prereleases, so it would be a good time to approach them about doing magic events outside of Wotc. It might just be what some TO's need to make up for lost revenue due to the change in the prerelease structure.

Amanda Knox will learn later if she is to be granted a review of the forensic evidence used to convict her of the murder of student Meredith Kercher.

The 23-year-old American is trying to overturn her conviction after being jailed last year for 26 years for the killing in Perugia, Italy, in 2007.

Miss Kercher, 21, from Coulsdon, south London, was found with her throat cut.

A review would include the disputed DNA evidence found on a knife and on the clasp of Miss Kercher's bra.

Knox's former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, was jailed for 25 years for the murder. He is appealing together with Knox.

The original trial heard the pair had cornered Miss Kercher after starting a sex game with Ivorian drug dealer Rudy Guede, who was jailed for 30 years for the killing, although that was reduced to 16 years on appeal.

The Leeds University student's semi-naked body was found partially covered by a duvet in her bedroom in the house she shared with Knox in Perugia.

Knox's defence team maintains the DNA evidence in the case was inconclusive and argued it may have been contaminated.

It particularly focuses on disputed traces of DNA found on the knife the prosecution said was used in the murder, and on the clasp of Miss Kercher's bra.

Knox's parents, from Seattle, have said they are hopeful their daughter will be released once judges in Italy have re-examined the evidence.

However, if her conviction is upheld, her sentence could be increased.

A decision is not expected until some time next year.

As in the original trial, the verdict will be decided by the judge, a fellow magistrate and six jurors.
